People often look to Youtube videos and blog posts to learn how to homestead. There is indeed a lot of good information out there posted by a lot of generous people. There is a lot of benefit to these resources and I am glad they are available to people who are starting out in homesteading.

However, many of the folks posting the videos are living in different regions with completely different climates. This is not a bad thing as long as the viewer understands that trying the same methods and expecting the same outcome in a different growing zone is unreasonable. Many have been left feeling frustrated or like failures because they couldn’t mimic what the person in the video did. Well, I am here to tell you that Australia is different from Washington State. Things just aren’t going to grow the same. Tiny houses that are built there will not need to withstand the same weather conditions they will here. It is just that simple.

The value of learning from someone who shares your growing zone and climate is often missed.

Finding someone with information about your growing zone and establishing a relationship as you progress through what you are doing is invaluable. This is what we are offering with the SongCroft Homestead School because quite frankly, there aren’t enough resources for growing in a temperate climate. Let’s face it, photos of tropical gardens are sexier and they sell better.

Our family has been homesteading in Washington State for more than 20 years and have the understanding of our weather patterns, including frost dates and rainfall as well as the tips and tricks to work with them. We humbly offer you the opportunity to not only take our courses so that you can read the articles and watch the videos but you also get to utilize our experience as we help guide your experience through a myriad of homesteading projects which will allow you to make more informed decisions. See our many reviews by colleagues and past apprentices if you are wondering what others have to say.
